‍The Challenge

Canal needed a succinct, engaging way to explain how its modern dropshipping platform works to prospective partners and brands. While the product was powerful, it wasn’t always easy for non-technical audiences to understand how it fit into their workflows — especially across sales demos and marketing materials.

My Role

As the lead designer on the brand team, I initiated this explainer video to support the sales funnel. I wore multiple hats:

Developed a clear, character-driven narrative from an early script
Storyboarded each scene to align UI, data, and emotional cues
Illustrated and animated custom character designs that reflected Canal’s diverse audience
Edited the audio track to match pacing and tone, balancing personality with professionalism

The goal was to create something polished but playful — a departure from the usual flat tech explainers.

Process Highlights

Created stylized characters in Adobe Illustrator and animated them in After Effects
Incorporated real product UI screenshots subtly, without overwhelming the viewer
Focused on visual metaphors and a limited color palette to keep the message clear
Embedded humor and charm into character expressions and transitions

Outcome

The final 1:52 video became a core sales enablement tool, helping Canal’s team close deals faster and explain the platform more consistently. It was used in outbound campaigns, onboarding flows, investor decks, and live demos — and received internal praise for striking the right tone between clever and credible.
